Ratchet Spacer Installation

This service is for installing OneUp ratchets into traditional DT Swiss star ratchet rear hubs only. DT Deg & EXP hubs are not compatible with our ratchets.

The red ratchet spacer is not required for OneUp hubs. Follow this link for the standard OneUp hubs ratchet service

Tools Needed

  • Isopropyl
  • Nitrile Gloves (recommended)
  • Cloth, or small brush
  • Freehub grease (Dumonde Tech) or DT special grease

STEP 1: REMOVE FREEHUB

Leaving the Cassette on the freehub, pull the freehub & end cap off of the rear hub axle by hand.

STEP 2: REMOVE RATCHET, SPRING & SPACER

Remove the springs, and the ratchets and recycle appropriately. Keep the axle spacer, it is required with the new ratchets. Clean the axle spacer, and the ratchet interfaces on the hub shell and freehub body thoroughly.

STEP 3: GREASE RATCHET ASSEMBLY

Ensuring rachet interfaces are clean, apply a thin layer of freehub grease or oil to the ratchet interfaces, the new ratchets, the ratchet spacer, the axle spacer and the spring.

The maximum amount of freehub grease is 2.5ml (half of the supplied grease packet). Excess freehub grease can cause poor engagement and potentially damage the rachet teeth.

Note: It is not recommended to grease excessively or not at all. Ideally everything within the freehub assembly has a thin layer of grease on it.

STEP 4: INSTALL AXLE & RATCHET SPACERS

Install the axle spacer then slide the red ratchet spacer over it. The larger side of the red ratchet spacer should sit against the bearing in the hub shell.

STEP 5: INSTALL ONEUP RATCHET ASSEMBLY

Drop the lightly greased ratchets onto into the hub shell. Place the spring onto the ratchets.

STEP 6: INSTALL FREEHUB

Making sure the ratchets fit into their channels on both the freehub and the hub shell, press the cleaned and greased freehub onto the axle until you hear a light click from the end cap reaching its seat on the axle

Give the cassette/freehub a spin by hand to ensure it is ratcheting smoothly and the assembly is held in place by the end cap properly.
