FAQ

How does the OneUp Aluminum Handlebar compare to other aluminum handlebars on the market in terms of comfort and responsiveness?

After benchmarking our aluminum handlebar against the industry's top handlebars, both carbon and aluminum, we found that our Aluminum Handlebar deliver more vertical compliance and increased steering stiffness. It’s increased comfort and control you have to feel to believe.

Do the decals come pre-installed?

The decals do not come installed. They are shipped on two sheets with a few other decal options for you. The lasered Gloss black "ONE" logo on the bars is a guide to help you position the colors decal kit.

What are the dimensions of the OneUp Aluminum Handlebar?

The OneUp Aluminum Handlebar has a geometry of 800mm wide with a 35mm diameter and a sweep of 8° back and 5° up.

How much does the OneUp Aluminum Handlebar weigh?

The OneUp Carbon Handlebar weighs 337 grams for the 35mm rise bar and 318 grams for 20mm.

How does the OneUp Aluminum Handlebar minimize arm pump and vibration?

The OneUp Aluminum Handlebar minimizes arm pump and vibration with its patented oval shape which combines the best ride characteristics of 31.8mm and 35mm bar standards into one package. This shape maximizes steering response while minimizing arm pump and vibration.

How does the OneUp Aluminum Handlebar help decrease hand pain when riding mountain bikes?

The OneUp Aluminum Handlebar minimizes hand pain by providing a more comfortable and compliant ride. The bar's patented oval shape increase vertical compliance, reducing hand fatigue and pain, while increasing steering or horizontal stiffness - so that you always remain in control and pain free.

How short can I cut these bars down?

Our bars can be cut down to a minimum of 740mm. Any further you risk clamping your controls onto the ovalized flex zone of the bar. Doing so could compromise the integrity of the bar.

If I cut my bars down, will I lose the compliance benefits?

As you reduce the length of the bar, the compliance will also reduce slightly. But keep in mind that a OneUp bar cut down to 740mm will still have more compliance compared to another 740mm bar.

Aluminum Handlebar: 35mm rise

"Great improvement over the stock bar that came on my bike. Cut it down a wee bit for trail riding. Noticeably more comfortable with less chatter and vibration."

OneUp Aluminum Handlebar.

"This is a great handlebar, I feel it has more compliance than the carbon version even after trimming it down to 760mm. It rides fantastic, plenty of stiffness and control on turns and compliant on big or small hits. On my Trek Slash 8 (Gen 5) I went from the stock aluminium bar to a carbon bar and back to aluminium with this OneUp bar and it is without a doubt one of the best upgrades I made to my bike's cockpit, I own many of OneUp's components on my Slash and I'm proud to say they're one of the best in the industry."

Q&A

Hi friends! I recently got back into riding again and my wife bought me a sweet Salsa Timberjack for my birthday. For context I spent 20 years in the military and due to injuries I have bulging disks in my mid thoracic spine and mild 6 degree scoliosis. I am also a pretty small guy weighing in a 160lbs and 5’4” so I need a pretty narrow grip or I feel like I’m trying to fly rather than ride a bike so I currently have my grips at 750mm. I typically ride 7-9 miles 5 days a week and was experiencing numbness and tingling in my hands so I took off the stock 20mm rise bars and put on aluminum PWN bars with 38mm of rise. This made everything worse and I now have pain in my upper back that doesn’t go away after the ride. I was looking to get a set of your aluminum handlebars to try out and see if I can’t get this back pain to at least decrease a little because I can’t stop riding my bike. It’s what keeps me sane. Do you think your aluminum bars would help in this situation or do you have another recommendation? The carbon bars are kind of out of my price range at the moment so I’m trying to make do with what I can. I’m hoping the 8 degree back sweep of your bars would be better for my back issues than the 10 degrees on my current bars. Thanks for your time and making it so easy to ask questions. Nate
Hi Nathan, thanks for dropping us a line. You're wife sounds like a lovely lady! As for the new handle bars, I would steer you towards putting that money into going for a bike fit. As a fellow rider with scoliosis, I've found this service to be much more useful than upgrading any products. I don't want to tell you that our bars will stop the back pain you are feeling. They are sweet bars, but I don't know if that 2 degree backsweep will be a big enough change for what you are needing. Bikes are very adjustable, and I am confident that this Salsa Timerjack will be fitting great soon!
I am installing the OneUp aluminum bar with OneUp stem on a new build. On the alloy bar, do the bar roll markings indicate where the bar is installed with rise and backsweep set even to the bike's head angle (similar to the carbon bar)? Is the preferred starting point for bar roll on the alloy bar the same as the carbon bar (set to match bike head angle)?
Hi Matthew, Thanks for your message, I'm happy to help.  The markings on the Alloy bars are purely there to make centering/reinstalling the bar easier, they don't denote any alignment/head angles like on the carbon bars. I'd personally suggest aligning the rise of the bar to be parallel to the forks/head angle. This aligns the compliance most directly with the forces you'll experience. This is a personal preference, and ultimately we'd suggest playing around with the roll until you find the most ideal set up for your riding style. Hope this helps, please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you. Cheers,
I am looking both your Alu and Carbon bars. Really wanted to try the 50mm rise but I see they are likely not comparable with my grips or horns. Any thoughts on adds on that would work? I ride concrete. Basically Specialized carbon road bikes with flat bars.
Hey Dan, I unfortunately don't have a solution for installing horns or grips on our 50mm carbon bars. You can install grips with a single outbound clamp on the alloy bars, but they only come in a 20mm and 35mm rise.
do you make 31.8 mm diameter?
Hi Teanue, thanks for reaching out. We don't have 31.8mm bars, only have 35mm bar.
Do you offer any handlebars with a 31.8mm diameter?
We don't unfortunately, Zo. Our bars all have 35mm diameters.
